The Essence of Reiki
The origins of Reiki to its founder, Mikao Usui Sensei, in the early 20th century in Japan, after undergoing a spiritual quest and extensive meditation and fasting practices on Mount Kurama, Kyoto, Mikao Usui Sensei claimed to have received a spiritual awakening and an ability to heal.
Usu sensei’s teachings and the system of healing he developed came to be known as Usui Reiki Ryoho, which translates to “Usui’s Spiritual Energy Healing Method.” Usui Reiki Ryoho formed the foundation for Reiki as it is practiced today.
Mikao Usui sensei’s approach to Reiki combined spiritual practices and energy healing techniques to facilitate healing and personal growth. Over time, his teachings were passed down to his students, who then further developed and spread the practice of Reiki.
